Demand Action from our Legislative Leadership

March On Harrisburg has compiled information that will be useful when you contact the legislative leadership in Harrisburg. The three legislators that we feel are most important to target in order to get our bills out of committee and to a floor vote are Mike Turzai, the Speaker of the House; Daryl Metcalfe, the committee chair for State Government in the House of Representatives; and Mike Folmer, the committee chair for State Government in the Senate.

Clicking on the appropriate legislator will bring you to a brief on how you can be most effective when meeting with these legislators.

Daryl Metcalfe

Mike Folmer

State Government Committee Chair
Senate

Mike Turzai

Speaker of the House

Representative Mike Turzai is the Speaker of the House. Our bills will not move through the House unless Speaker Turzai is supportive. Speaker Turzai is also running for Governor in 2018. His Republican challenger, Senator Scott Wagner, is already calling him out as a corrupt Harrisburg insider. His Democratic challenger, Governor Tom Wolf, is emphatically supportive of our bills and placed his own office under a self-imposed gift ban. Please call Speaker Turzai’s office at 412.369.2230 and convey the following message.
Hello, my name is (your name). I live in (your city or county) and am calling to ask that Speaker Turzai do what he can to push HB39 and HB722 through the State Government Committee, and commit to calling a vote on HB39 and HB722 when they emerge from the committee. HB39 would limit gifts from lobbyists to State Legislators. I think it is ridiculous that legislators are currently able to take any gifts from lobbyists (insert your own reasons or expressions of how absurd this is). HB722 would end partisan redistricting, gerrymandering, by taking the power of redistricting and placing it with an independent nonpartisan citizen commission. Pennsylvania is the second most gerrymandered state in the union, and voters should choose elected officials, not elected officials choosing their voters. (Insert your own reasons or expressions of how absurd this is). I hope that Speaker Turzai can demonstrate leadership on these bills and work to build trust with the people of Pennsylvania. Thank you for your time.

Daryl Metcalfe

State Government Committee Chair
House Of Representatives

Representative Daryl Metcalfe is the chair of the State Government Committee in the House. He decides whether or not our bills come to a vote. Please call his office at 717.783.1707, and convey the following message.

Mike Folmer

State Government Committee Chair
Senate

Senator Mike Folmer is the Chairman of the Senate State Government Committee. Our bills currently sit in his committee, and they will not move without his support. Senator Folmer and his office are cooperative with March on Harrisburg, and it is important to nudge him in a friendly way to keep him on track. Please call Senator Folmer’s office at 717.787.5708 and convey the following message.
Hello, my name is (your name). I live in (your city or county) and am calling to ask that Senator Folmer call a vote in the State Government Committee on SB132 and SB22. SB132 would limit gifts from lobbyists to State Legislators. I think it is ridiculous that legislators are currently able to take any gifts from lobbyists (insert your own reasons or expressions of how absurd this is). SB22 would end partisan redistricting, gerrymandering, by taking the power of redistricting and placing it with an independent nonpartisan citizen commission. (Insert your own reasons or expressions of how absurd this is). I understand that Senator Folmer is supportive of these bills, and I ask that he move the process forward both quickly and deliberately. Thank you for your time.
